A Trip to the Theatre

Year 3, 5 and 6 all had a trip to the Theatre Royal today to see Patrick Benson in The Children’s Bookshow. Patrick Benson is an artist who has illustrated lots of well-known children’s books, including The Minpins and Owl Babies.

As we arrived into Newcastle early, we had time for a quick visit to Fenwick’s window. We were all delighted with this year’s theme of The Snowman. After that we had time to stop for a snack at the Monument and we were lucky enough to have a fabulous busker singing nearby.

When the show started, we listen to Patrick Benson tell us all about his career as an illustrator. He showed us a lot of his pictures and explain the process he goes through each time he creates pictures for a new book.

Back at school this afternoon, we had a go at illustrating a chapter of our class reader, Wolf Brother. The children created fabulous pictures from the images in their head as they read, just like Patrick Benson.
