This year, our children participated in the Muhoroni Water Appeal along with all of the other Catholic schools in Newcastle.
The joint project was led by Mr Aidan Duffy (Head Teacher of St John Vianney) and Fr David Smith of the same parish. It was designed to raise money to drill a bore hole in Muhoroni, Kenya to replace the failing water butts at the area’s only hospital. This venture will cost £25,000 but will quite literally save lives on a daily basis.
Inspired by this sense of mission, our children organised a number of cake sales and a fun run where all of the children were sponsored by their parents to run one mile. In total, we raised just over £750 as a school which was a tremendous effort.
Below, is a photograph of representatives of all the participating schools along with the Bishop and Mr Duffy at the Year 6 leavers mass at St Mary’s Cathedral. The project has raised a sum of money that has exceeded the initial target and it is brilliant to know that our school contributed so well.
