Reception writing workshop
On Thursday, lots of Mams, Dads and Nanas came back to school to learn to write!
They worked alongside their child in the classroom and heard about how much they can help their child with some of the key writing skills. Forming letters correctly is crucial if children are going to be able to progress to joined up writing next year and this is something that parents can really help with at home working closely with their child to stop bad habits creeping in.
Parents also heard about how they can help their child ‘ sound out’ words using their phonic skills to help them – correct spelling doesn’t matter at this stage – just listening to and identifying the sounds they can hear is much more important.
The children loved having their parents come into the classroom and many families commented on how useful they found the session. Next term we’ll hold a similar session to explain how we approach maths within the Reception class.
