Y2 Visit to Shipley Art Gallery

Year 2 visited The Shipley Art Gallery on 25th February as part of our Science work this term about Materials.

The purpose of our visit was to develop our understanding about how materials can change their appearance.

We took part in two practical workshops whilst we were at the Gallery and spent time looking at artifacts made from a variety of materials. We had the opportunity to do some drawing in the ceramic room; a room which is seldom open to the public.

In the morning we looked at the natural material; wool. Julie, the education officer at the Shipley then showed us how to make felt using dyed wool. We were then able to design and make our own piece of felt, we made some unique pieces of felt.

In the afternoon we used the designs which we had seen in the ceramic gallery to inspire our own clay tile designs. We each made our own clay tile and used a variety of tools to create our own individual designs. We were proud of our pieces of felt and our clay tiles!
