Soup fun in Year 5!

In DT lessons this term, Year 5 have been learning about origin and seasonality of ingredients, healthy eating and a range of techniques for preparing ingredients.  They were also tasked with designing and making their own vegetable soup.

We learnt a range of techniques for preparing ingredients, including cutting and chopping ingredients using the claw and bridge technique, peeling ingredients and kneading dough (using playdough!)

Next, we designed our own recipe for a vegetable soup and considered how we would prepare each ingredient.  This was our final ingredient list:

  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 1 can sweetcorn
  • ½ lentils
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 3 cubes vegetable stock

Then, it was time to make the soup! We were each given a job: peeling and chopping carrots and potatoes, cutting onions and adding cans of vegetables to the mix.  Once the soup was ready it was time for the best bit, tasting our creation! We thought it tasted amazing and we had a great time preparing it!
