Bishop’s Cup 2016/17

Our school football team played their first matches of the season on Wednesday 28 September.

We played three matches against St. Bede’s, St Alban’s and St Oswald’s. The team had never played together before but competed very well in each game. They could have easily won all three matches with a little more belief in themselves.

In the first match, we started well and missed two early chances before Noah Kanu was well set up by Junior Baptista to score. St. Bede’s briefly equalised before the same boys combined to restore our lead. Junior then scored a great individual goal to give us an excellent 3-1 win.

Unfortunately we only had five minutes rest before the next match against St Alban’s. Despite this, we took the lead through Junior Baptista before St Alban’s came back to defeat us 2-1 with two very well taken goal. It was a result that was harsh on the balance of play.

Finally we took on St Oswald’s and lost an early goal. However, Junior equalised for St Lawrence’s. The contest was extremely even and ended as a draw with neither side able to force a winner.

All in all, it was an excellent start to the season for our team. Throughout the event, the team displayed great sportsmanship. Well done to: Owen Armstrong, Elle Renwick, Kaitlyn Renwick, Maddox Edwards, Lloyd Tunmore, Zach Moore, Noah Kanu and Junior Baptista for representing the school so well.

Sadly Mr Brown forgot the school camera….
