Just.Is Conference at St Mary’s
Last Thursday, Year 5 participated in the Just.Is conference at St Mary’s High School, a yearly conference which deals with a range of social and political issues. The focus this year was Combating Climate Change. The day began with a tour of the school buildings; we were extremely impressed with the facilities! Following this, we watched a range of presentations, given by members of the Just.Is group, which included information about the causes of climate change, why it is important for us to do something about climate change and a drama performance about the future of the Earth.
Throughout the day, we attended a number of workshops about climate change, learning more about the causes, solutions, the science behind it and air pollution in Newcastle to name a few! We worked with children from other schools to debate issues, conduct experiments and solve problems. The day concluded with a presentation about how we can each help combat climate change and a liturgy that gave us time to reflect on the message of the day. We are very passionate about protecting the environment and the day has taught us how as individuals
