Creating Jazz with ipads in Year 6
Year 6 had a fantastic time composing and performing their own jazz compositions using ipads. Mr Olatunji helped them choose and select various programs to achieve a mix of harmony and rhythm that this genre of music needs.
We began the lesson by looking at the history of jazz, with African Americans in New Orleans adopting the style pre and post WWI. It was transferred to Europe by African American soldiers before musicians such as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong ensured its popularity went through the roof, despite facing lots of racism. We listened to a number of examples before improvising with our own ideas and recording them.
