Visit from Catherine McKinnell MP

Today Catherine McKinnell, MP for Newcastle North, kindly took time out of her busy schedule to talk to all of the pupils and staff at our school.

We were extremely grateful and felt very privileged that Catherine was able to talk to us about her career so far as an MP.

During her short visit we found out lots of information about Catherine’s background and what her life is like as an MP.

The children were exceptional listeners and were invited to ask Catherine some very intellectual questions including her opinion on Brexit, if she likes debating and what inspired her to become an MP.

It was great to see the older children relating to a discussion about Parliament, having visited the Houses of Parliament earlier this year.

Catherine emphasised how important it is to follow your dreams and aspirations and that anyone is able to become an MP if they are determined.

Catherine also explained how debating is a huge part of her role as an MP, and that, although she may disagree with others it is important to respect them.

Both the children and staff gained lots from her talk and we feel honoured to have welcomed Catherine into our school. Thank you once again to Catherine McKinnell for visiting our school.

Below is a picture of Catherine meeting our school council who were all eager to ask further questions.
