On Tuesday 18 November, 17 KS2 pupils took in a special performance at Newcastle Cathedral. As part of an event organised by Newcastle Music Service, we were invited to perform 4 different songs along with 5 other Newcastle schools. The choir sang confidently and beautifully. The whole cathedral was packed with about 400 parents, carers and other pupils. Despite the crowd, the were very few nerves! A teacher from another commented on how beautifully everyone sang.

Year 1 had a special visit from the author Kate Rolfe. She told the children her journey of becoming an author and said that it all began with her love for drawing and then she could add words that match with the pictures. Kate is dyslexic so it was lovely to hear about her story, her experience writing a story and how words appear on a page for her. We were excited to travel by minibus to the farm. Once inside, we enjoyed exploring all the different animals including pigs, goats, sheep, hens, ducks, rabbits, snakes, guinea pigs and many, many more! We all completed an animal treasure hunt and counted how many of each animal we could see. We listened carefully to the noises the animals make and identified which sounds belonged to which animals. Some children were brave enough to touch the animals! We went on a little walk

St Lawrence's took part in a Remembrance Day assembly this morning. All pupils were given a paper poppy which was purchased by school. All pupils also had the opportunity to buy items from the Poppy Appeal, including pencils, bag chains and snap bands. In their French lesson this week, Year 6 learned how France celebrates Remembrance Day, and that they use a mix of poppies and cornflowers. Our wreath reflects the two colours. On Monday 10 November, 15 Year 6 pupils were given the opportunity to attend a special workshop at The Lighthouse Project.  It is all part of the Enchanted City project run by Newcastle City Council where there will be a variety of art installations across the city. The pupils created paper artwork, inspired by the artist Kate Eccles. They made feathers, birds and stars, all with the view to creating shadow pictures.

<p>Today we celebrated a wonderful final Mass of the school year, in honour of both our patron St Lawrence and our Year 6 leavers. Year 6 led us in prayer, reminding us of Lawrence&#8217;s incredible strength in the face of hardship, and his understanding that the sick and needy were the real treasures of the [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate the arrival of JMW Turner&#8217;s &#8216;The Fighting Temeraire&#8217; at Newcastle&#8217;s Laing art gallery, Year 6 researched Turner&#8217;s watercolour &#8216;The Sun at Venice&#8217; and tried their hands at producing a watercolour of school with some of Turner&#8217;s sense of light. As you&#8217;ll agree, the results are hugely impressive!</p>

<p>Pentecost Sunday marked the beginning of our First Holy Communion Masses at St Lawrence&#8217;s church. Four of our children received the Blesses Sacrament for the first time in a beautiful Mass. We are so proud of how hard the children worked to prepare themselves, and the prayerfulness with which they approached this huge step in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Some lucky children in Year 6 had the chance to meet TRH the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Their Royal Highnesses were visiting the Veterans Launchpad charity in Byker, who work with veterans of the armed forces. Our children spoke to the Duke and Duchess calmly and politely when they were asked questions. Well done!</p>

<p>St Lawrence&#8217;s gathered together this afternoon together with some of the people of our parish and Father Jonathan to mark the beginning of Lent with a special Celebration of the Word. <p>Year 4 had a wonderful time as we took part in practice day 1 of this year&#8217;s Skipping School! Chris from Skipping School showed us some new skipping techniques and helped us to be healthy and enjoy ourselves. This is only the beginning &#8211; we will keep practising until we take part in a skipping [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Congratulations to our attendance prize winners. Each winner&#8217;s attendance has been over 98% for the whole autumn term. We have given away bikes, skateboards, games, vouchers and special match day tickets for 13 January! Well done to all of the winners and their families for their excellent attendance.</p>

<p>Last week, Year 6 had a wonderful residential three-day trip to Borrowdale in the Lake District. We spent our time pushing ourselves to achieve new things; our activities included rock climbing, orienteering, ghyll scrambling and canoeing on the beautiful Derwentwater. Throughout our time at the residential we worked hard to build our resilience and work [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week all classes have been studying the Islamic faith. It has been a wonderful week full of colour and excitement! Each class looked at a different area of the Muslim faith; Early Years – Prayer mats ,Year 1 &#8211; Muhammad ,Year 2 – Prayer at home , Year 3 – The Mosque , Year [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today at Forest School, Year 5 Nurture Group learnt how to tie reef knots. They then use these knots to make woodland mobiles using interesting items they found in the woods such as feathers and pine cones.
