Mock Baptism in KS 1

Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about the Sacrament of Baptism. We have learnt all about the signs and symbols of Baptism and what they mean.

On Tuesday Father Shaun came to school and did a mock Baptism with Years 1 and 2 in the hall as we are not able to go to church at the moment.

We choose ‘Parents’ for our ‘baby’

They chose the name; Alex Ruth for our baby.

We then chose godparents for the baby, their role is to help the parents to look after the baby and help the child to follow Jesus.

Father Shaun welcomed the parents, godparents and congregation to the service and blessed them.

Father read from the Holy Gospel.

Father put the oil of Baptism onto the baby’s head and then the oil of Chrism onto the baby’s chest.

He poured the water of new life on the baby’s head.

He wrapped a white garment around the baby as a sign of goodness.

Father gave the godparents a Baptismal candle for the baby. This is a sign that Jesus is the light of the world and it is a symbol to show us that the baby can now follow Jesus throughout their lives.

This was a wonderful celebration and we learnt such a lot about The Sacrament of Baptism.

We all prayed together at the end and Father gave us a special blessing.
