Year 6 Play the Blues

Year 6 spent the afternoon working with Mr Olatunji listening to and then composing their own blues song in the style of music legend Sam Cooke.

They looked at the history of the blues from the deep south of the USA, begun by slaves, and how jazz we created in a similar way.

They then studied 2 songs by Sam Cooke (Wonderful World and A Change is Gonna Come) before using the chords he wrote in to create their own work.

Finally, they recorded and performed their compositions in front of the class before finishing with a freestyle opportunity.  All of the this was done through Garage Band on the ipads.
