Bringing Ancient Egypt to Life in Year 3

Year 3 enjoyed taking part in an immersive Ancient Egyptian day led by Durham University Oriental Museum. They handled original artefacts as mini archaeologists, using observation and enquiry skills to form theories. Later, they used x‑rays to investigate a mummy, discovering clues about life, beliefs and culture. They learnt about protective amulets and made their own from clay. The experience ended with a dramatic Weighing of the Heart ceremony, where a member of the class was mummified and judged by the gods for entry into the afterlife.
