Coke and mentos experiment

As part of science week  this year, Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from Technology Tom.  He conducted an experiment to show us how gases can be dissolved in liquid.  He demonstrated this using a bottle of diet coke and a tube leading to a beaker of water.  As we tapped the bottle of coke, the water in the beaker decreased as gas was released from the liquid.  Then, he added mentos to coke to show us just how much gas the bottle contained.  We were shocked that the liquid shot up the tube so high!
