Year 6 had an amazing time at the Royal Grammar School coding Lego robots.
They took part in a series of hands-on activities thanks to the the Digital Schoolhouse Workshop.
They discovered how to program the robots and ensure they carried out a variety of commands.
Children also had to ensure that they showed resilience as quite often their initial attempts failed. They talked about how many careers now use these ICT skills and how teamwork was vital.
As part of the tasks they showed how to:
design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems; solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts
use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with variables and various forms of input and output
use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs
select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design.
create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information
use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
It was a fantastic morning and helped the children consider a career using ICT in the future
