Democracy in Action

Year 6 looked at how democracy works as part of ‘British Values’ week.

As a class we each wrote out our individual manifestos in the shape of a speech.  We laid out the personal skills we felt we had as well as any ideas we could bring to help improve the school.

Next we had a hustings where we heard from everyone and were then able to ask them questions about their policies.  We were a fantastic audience and listened impeccably.

After that we began the voting process, which was carried out in secret so nobody knew our choices.  This reflected the British democratic process.  Mr Brown ran our ‘Polling Station’ as well as acting as our returning officer when we found out the results.
