Kitchen Science in Year 6

Year 6 learnt about how to stay safe from unfriendly bacteria thanks to our resident expert – cook Gillian.

She discussed how she keeps the school kitchen clean and how we can help do the same in our homes.

Amongst the things we discussed included storing food carefully – especially keeping cooked and uncooked things away from each other – and at the correct temperature.

In our previous experiment we found out that boiling water killed yeast so we worked out that  adults need to clean things with hot water to kill bacteria.

We also realised that we can play our part by washing our hands carefully when we sneeze, cough or go to the toilet.
