Year 4 at Laing Art Gallery

Year 4 had a fantastic visit to the Laing Art Gallery today to tie in with our ‘Autumn’ art topic. We began by looking at the work of the famous north-east engraver and printmaker Thomas Bewick, and sketching leaves from artworks around the gallery.

Then we went to the printers’ workshop, where we used a styrofoam printing plate to turn our sketches into wonderful printed designs.

Over the next few weeks we will use these and the other artworks we’ve made this term to make a curtain of autumn leaves. We will also write printing instructions and about Thomas Bewick and the history of printing.
