Great Geology in Year 3!

In Year 3 we are exploring ‘Rocks and Soils’ in Science this term. Today we investigated the strength of rocks (hardness test) and also how much water they can absorb. We worked as a class, deciding on a scaled system to judge the strength and water absorption levels. We looked at rocks of all types; sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. We poured water on the rocks to test absorption levels and examined how much water was left on the paper towel underneath. To test hardness, we used our scaled score and examined the rocks by holding them and hitting them on a surface.
