Making Christmas Puppets in Year 1

In Design Technology this week, Year 1 have made some excellent Christmas puppets.

We began by learning how fabrics can be joined together using methods such as gluing, stapling and pinning. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each method and the health and safety considerations.

Next, we chose the characters for our puppets. These included angels, snowmen, robins, Christmas trees and Santa. We then planned our design, labelling the decorations we would add.

After that, everyone carefully drew around their template and cut out the two pieces of felt. We then joined the fabric together by stapling.

Finally, the puppets were decorated using items such as sequins, pipe cleaners, pompoms and gems.
