This week we explored circles and triangles through the inspiring work of artist Wassily Kandinsky. The children loved creating their own Kandinsky-style art using loose parts and even experimented with 3D art. It was fantastic to see them noticing shapes in their designs and talking about how circles and triangles can make beautiful patterns.

On Monday 10 November, 15 Year 6 pupils were given the opportunity to attend a special workshop at The Lighthouse Project.  It is all part of the Enchanted City project run by Newcastle City Council where there will be a variety of art installations across the city. The pupils created paper artwork, inspired by the artist Kate Eccles. They made feathers, birds and stars, all with the view to creating shadow pictures.

On Thursday 6 November, pupils in Year 4, 5 and 6 and took part in the Big Draw at The Lighthouse Project. The Big Draw is a charity that champions drawing and creativity as a way to bring people together.  Ringtons are a sponsor for this year’s festival, alongside the National Trust and a few others. Reception children had a magical afternoon exploring autumn during a special experience at The Lighthouse Project.  We began by collecting leaves of all shapes, sizes, and colours—from fiery reds to golden yellows and crunchy browns. Inspired by cave paintings from the Stone Age, Year 3 have enjoyed creating Prehistoric art. They began by drawing the outline of an animal using charcoal. Next, they created a Prehistoric palette by making paints out of natural materials such as grass, leaves, mud, tea, beetroot and raspberries. Finally, they used the palette to paint their animals. <p>Today we role played the Gospel of Matthew 3:13-17 in Year 2, the story of Jesus’ baptism by John the Baptist. We also annotated art work representing the scripture, thinking about how the different people felt that day.</p>

<p>Since we returned to school after Christmas, we have been looking at Performance Poetry in Year 2. We have rehearsed, discussed an annotated a variety of performance poems. <p>Today Year 2 made some beautiful Advent Wreaths. We thought about our school Advent Wreath which we see in Collective Worship on a Monday. Mrs Robson lights a candle each week. <p>Year 6 have been learning the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. The class liked this song from the start of term and are very enthusiastic when performing this together. Alongside this song, we have also been learning about other songs that make us happy or have happiness as their theme. For example, ‘Top of the [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This half term, Year 4 have been learning the song ‘Mamma Mia’ by Abba. Whilst learning this song, we have been exploring other Abba Songs such as ‘Dancing Queen,’ ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and ‘Waterloo’. <p>This half term, Year 1 have been learning the song, ‘Hey You!’. It involves rap verses as well as singing verses. Year 1 learnt this song really quickly and have been very enthusiastic whilst performing this song. This term were have also learnt how to play the glockenspiel. <p>Today we enjoyed a fabulous story writing workshop. We worked with a team of writers, illustrators, directors and playwrights to create our own story. We had such a wonderful time and impressed the editor! He even published our book!</p>

<p>KS2 Choir and Orchestra performed a wonderful celebration of Disney music for friends and family. They were conducted by Miss Hedley and either sang or played ukulele. They finished with joyous sing-a-long encore of ‘Hakuna Matata.’ All musicians performed beautifully. <p>We had a fantastic day at the Shipley Art Gallery. We took park in two workshops creating our own materials. Firstly, we made our own piece of felt using different colours of wool and soapy water. We then made our own mosaic tiles using clay. It was interesting to compare and contrast materials, thinking about [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate the arrival of JMW Turner&#8217;s &#8216;The Fighting Temeraire&#8217; at Newcastle&#8217;s Laing art gallery, Year 6 researched Turner&#8217;s watercolour &#8216;The Sun at Venice&#8217; and tried their hands at producing a watercolour of school with some of Turner&#8217;s sense of light. As you&#8217;ll agree, the results are hugely impressive!</p>

<p>Year 2 have had lots of fun this week designing, making and evaluating their own felt pouches this week in Design and Technology. We firstly practised running stitches on paper and then on a scrap piece of felt. Secondly we progressed onto sewing two templates together to make our pouch. We then designed a motif [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate Earth Day 2024, we discussed the importance of looking after our environment and made pledges to reduce the amount of plastic we use. We looked at the work of the artist, Michelle Reader and how she uses recycled materials to create her sculptures. We then made our own monster sculptures using recycled materials.</p>

<p>For our DT topic this year, we have been designing and making a chair for baby bear. To make baby bear’s chair we used paper, tape and card. We had to ensure the chair legs were strong and stable and the same length. We also decorated our chairs to make them eye catching. We presented [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in art, Year 1 has had fun exploring primary and secondary colours. We began by recapping primary colours and then discussed how we can mix the primary colours to get secondary colours. Then we experimented by mixing the primary colours to create a colour wheel. Next, we explored the work of the artist [&hellip;]</p>
