In Reception class, the children have been learning how to sort and group autumn-themed objects. Using a lovely selection of seasonal items, they practised their early maths and observation skills by organising them into different categories.
They explored:
Leaves by Colour – Grouping leaves into colours like red, yellow, orange, and brown helped children notice differences in shade and shape.
Conkers and Pinecones – Children compared these natural objects by size, shape, and texture. They noticed which conkers were rounder or shinier, and which pinecones were more open or rough to touch.
This hands-on activity supported the development of sorting and classifying skills, while sparking curiosity and conversation about the signs of autumn. It was a fun and engaging way to learn through play.
