Service of Light

On Tuesday 5th December St Lawrence’s held a service of light to remember those in our families who have died. During November we have had a Tree of Light in our school hall where staff and children have added names of their loved ones who have passed away. We have remembered these members of St Lawrence’s family in our school and class Liturgies. Each child who had added a name to the tree lit a candle for the person in their family who had died.

The service was led by Father Rooke, readings were read by Daniel Sadi and Moses Mateus. A poem was read by Mrs Hagon;

They have Gone by David Harkins

You can shed tears that they have gone

Or you can smile because they have lived

You can close your eyes and pray that they will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that they have left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see them

Or you can be full of the love that you have shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because pof yesterday

You can remember them and only that they have gone

Or you can cherish the memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what they would want ; smile, open your eyes love and go on.

The first candle of the Advent wreath was lit and Father Rooke led us in a prayerful reconciliation as part of our preparation for Christmas.

The children were able to spend time in silent reflection.
