Visit from a Marine Pilot

As part of our work on Raising Aspirations, Year 6 are learning about a variety of different careers.  In particular, we are looking at those which we may not have thought about before.

This morning, we welcomed Richard Moore – a Marine Pilot from the Port of Tyne. Richard told us all about his exciting work on the River Tyne, guiding ships from all over the world, safely into our local port.    We learned about how the port works and the different types of ships which load and unload their cargo or passengers.  Richard also told us about the different careers available in the Merchant Navy and the opportunities available to work in many different countries.

A big thank you to Richard and the Port of Tyne who provided all the children with a goody bag, too!
