At St Lawrence’s we are passionate about Reading. We recognise the importance of developing children’s word-reading skills and comprehension, but also their love of books and reading.
This year we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Seven Stories – the National Centre for Children’s Books. . They have placed a member of staff into our school (every week for a full academic year) who will work mainly with Early Years but also our whole school community to encourage a story sharing culture with high quality books, resources and creative activities.
Our Reader-in Residence – Jonah – began working with our Reception children this week and was immediately a huge hit!
A Reader in residence programme has four core aims:
Create a story sharing culture with the whole school community.
Encourage and excite diverse groups of children, young people, parents and staff.
Provide a consistently rich experience of high quality children’s literature, for pleasure, to support children and families to achieve their potential.
Create inclusive shared experiences through creativity.
