Year 6 had a fantastic 1
day as part of a week-long project with IntoUniversity Newcastle East.
The scheme – in partnership with Newcastle University and Northumbria University – is designed to give children a glimpse into life at Further Education. Year 6 are following an engineering syllabus this week, which includes a trip to the Centre For Life and a graduation ceremony at Newcastle University.
On Monday the children took part in a number of sessions, including designing their own robot, investigating forces with balloon rockets, building spaghetti towers and looking at how different surfaces impact on toy cars.
The day was finished off by writing about 4 important engineers: Brunel who designed the Clifton Suspension Bridge; Eva Lovelace whose calculations helped inspire the 1
computers; Mae Jemison the 1st African American woman in space and American Yuan-Cheng Fung, the founder of biomechanics.
