This half term, we have been exploring the exciting question: How do things work? By exploring through practical experiences and asking lots of questions, we have been developing our understanding of how things work.
This week, we put our learning into action by making gingerbread men from scratch! This fun and engaging activity helped us see how simple ingredients can change and transform into a delicious finished product.
While baking, we used many important skills:
Maths skills to carefully measure out ingredients
Fine motor skills to stir, roll, and cut the dough into shape
Communication and language to talk about what we were doing and why
We also had some thoughtful discussions about the tools we used. For example, we talked about why a bowl is better than a plate for mixing ingredients, and why an oven is needed to cook the dough instead of a microwave. These conversations helped us understand not just what we were doing, but why it works the way it does.
It was a fantastic week of learning, creativity, and teamwork—and of course, the gingerbread men were delicious too!
