World Book Day in EYFS

This week Nursery and Reception Class celebrated World Book Day by focusing on the story ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’ by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler.

The Nursery children dressed up in blue like the Smoo characters in the story and the Reception children dressed in red like the Smeds. We took part in lots of fun space themed activities relating to the story such as; colour mixing on foil, designing aliens out of play dough and drawing alien characters onto paper, matching numerals on planets to the corresponding rockets,  making alien antennae hats, exploring space water and searching for stars and aliens in the sand. We sang some space songs including the number rhyme ‘5 little men in a flying saucer’ using our fingers to count.

In the afternoon The Smeds (Reception Class) and The Smoos (Nursery Class) joined together for a Smoo-Smed party!  We played lots of fun games together relating to the story and had a special treat at the end.  A great time was had by all!
