<p>Year 4 had a fantastic visit to the Laing Art Gallery today to tie in with our &#8216;Autumn&#8217; art topic. We began by looking at the work of the famous north-east engraver and printmaker Thomas Bewick, and sketching leaves from artworks around the gallery. <p>Year 2 have enjoyed having pen pals from Belsay school throughout this school year through The Linking Project. sadly we have not been able to meet up with our pen pals this year but we have kept in touch throughout the year by writing letters, exchanging postcards, sending pictures and even writing acrostic poems about [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This term, Nursery have enjoyed taking part in a Circus Stories Programme.  They have listened to and joined in with some fabulous stories read by Megan from Seven Stories and they have been taught some new and exciting circus skills such as plate spinning, flower sticks and juggling by Paul from Circus Central.  We have [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Last Term, our Nursery children enjoyed looking at Traditional Tale Stories.  We talked about the different characters and how each story has a beginning, middle and end.   We did lots of exciting activities linked to each story including making up our own characters,  choosing our own ending to the story and tasting yummy gingerbread men.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 used the song ‘Derby Day’ by Maz O’Conner to inspire them to write a narrative from the point of view of the character used to narrate the story. The song is about a young boy who attends the 1913 Derby with his father but then witnesses the terrible death of the Suffragette Emily [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week, Nurture Group are learning how to work with clay and clay tools to create a nature themed medallion. The children searched the yard for signs of Spring and chose items from nature that would make interesting imprints in their work. We will show you the finished products next week!</p>

<p>Did you know that rainbows are actually circles? Last week, Nurture Group were learning about the conditions needed for  rainbows to appear and what happens as the sunlight hits the rain drops. Pupils then made their own artistic interpretations of rainbows for a display. They were beautiful!</p>

<p>Year 3 have been producing some superb work this week from home! We have been looking at telling the time in maths, different word families in literacy, practising our 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s and 4s times tables and produced some imaginative writing about snowy and icy weather.Well done, Year 3! <p>On Friday we made our Angel of the North replicas. to finish off our Geography topic comparing the North East to London. We designed the replicas last week, thinking about the intent of our models and how someone might buy one for decoration or how a smaller version could be made even as a Christmas [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We created a whole school art display to celebrate Remembrance Day and brighten up the exterior of our school. Every child in school created their own poppy using a range of media and techniques.  The Nursery children made collage poppies using assorted paper and pva glue, they also experienced print making for the first time [&hellip;]</p>

<p>In  music this half term we have been finding out about the composer Alan Menken. We looked at his composition of Aladdin. Firstly we read the story of Aladdin. We then listened to the music and tried to imagine which part of the story the music would fit with. We sequenced the story in groups [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The children have been learning about the artist, John Constable in their art work this term.  As an introduction to their new topic, the children were given the opportunity to experiment with different coloured paints and range of tools so that they too could become mini artists.  We are building up to doing our own [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 1 bubbles have been doing some super art work linked to their Science about butterflies. Hand-print butterflies Symmetrical patterns Making butterflies outside with chalk, flour and paints.</p>

<p>This week a number of Year 1 pupils returned to school after a 12 week period of home learning. They were all so pleased to see some of their friends again and begin learning in school. Year 1 have completed some super Literacy and Maths activities in their Year 1  bubbles. Lots of our activities [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 have continued to work really hard during their time at home and they have been sending in some lovely photographs. This week we have been reading The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. All of our Literacy work this week has been linked to this text and the children [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; Year 2 boys and girls have been making some lovely Easter crafts whilst they have been at home. What creative children we have in Year 2! Happy Easter to all at St Lawrence&#8217;s From Mrs Hagon and Year 2 &nbsp;</p>
