Reading for Pleasure
The adventures of a space-travelling boy and his hamster have seen their creators become published authors, after budding writers at our school took part in a special reading and writing programme. The Year 5 pupils have been involved in a three-year project with Seven Stories, which has seen them work together to create their own story to be turned into a printed book. Seven Stories had funding from the Helen Bailey Trust to work for three years with a class from Newcastle.

YEAR 2 - SCIENCE - MATERIALS - SUITABLE MATERIALS
In Year 2 we had a problem! Mrs Woodley had ripped her umbrella so we had to test different materials to find a suitable one to fix it. We decided that the material had to be light, flexible, strong and waterproof so we got to work to test each of the materials to see which one would be most suitable.

To begin our Science topic, we went on a materials hunt around school. We thought about the materials that we see inside and outside of the classroom and the properties of each material. We plan on doing some invesigations on the suitability of different materials as our topic goes on.

Making Healthy Wraps in Year 2
This week, we made wraps using lots of healthy ingredients. We practised different skills, including snipping, cutting, spreading and grating as part of our work in Design and Technology. This also linked in with our work in Science on choosing foods to keep us fit and healthy. Our wraps were delicious and we plan on making more at home!
