<p>We have been learning about the Continents of the world in our Geography topic this have term. We put our knowledge to the test this week by playing a matching card game in pairs. We had to see if we could match the continent maps to their name, it was lots of fun!</p>

<p>This week in History Year 1 have enjoyed learning about coal mining in the North East and the invention of the Miner’s Safety Lamp by George Stephenson. Firstly, we investigated sources and considered what it would be like to be in a mine underground. Next, we discussed the question: How could miner’s see underground? Finding [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; Reception class have enjoyed learning about the changes in winter. They used talk and art to share their understanding of the weather and types of clothes you need to stay warm. They were also introduced to the concept of hibernation and impressed us with their fantastic writing skills and ability to explain what hibernation [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 had a fantastic day at Seaton Delaval Hall today all linked to our current humanities unit on map skills. We practised 4 and 6-figure grid references, tried a bit of orienteering and started work on the 16-point compass. What a fantastic way to kick off our module in beautiful surroundings!</p>

<p>In our history lesson we split the class in half, one side was Athens and the other Sparta. Each city state argued their case of which was the best place to live. We then completed an anonymous vote. Athens was voted the best place to live!</p>

<p>Before half term Year 4 had the pleasure of spending the morning with Richard. We held artifacts from Ancient Greece and tried on armour that would have been worn by Greeks! We had a great time!</p>

<p>Before half term, Year 2 had a very exciting trip to the Laing Art Gallery. We finally got to meet our penpals from Belsay School. We met up with our penpals and did some activities in the gallery with them. This involved some circle time games and producing some art together. It was magical to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>It was Year 6&#8217;s turn to visit Seaton Delaval Hall as part of our partnership with the National Trust. We had a fabulous time exploring the beautiful gardens and learning about the fascinating history of the estate and house. <p>We had a fantastic day at the Discovery Museum today. We took part in two workshops. Firstly, a workshop all about The Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. Fran, our leader at the museum, told us the story and we acted it out with noises and actions. We even took part in a puppet show [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 3 enjoyed a day trip to Beamish open museum, where we learned what life was like during and after the Victorian Era. We had a Victorian school experience where a very strict teacher showed us how to write by dipping into ink. We practised our handwriting, our times tables, recited poetry and drew a [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate Earth Day 2024, we discussed the importance of looking after our environment and made pledges to reduce the amount of plastic we use. We looked at the work of the artist, Michelle Reader and how she uses recycled materials to create her sculptures. We then made our own monster sculptures using recycled materials.</p>

<p>Today in Year 1 we had a special visitor! Ross Hutchinson from ITV Weather came to talk to us about all things weather and climate. Ross introduced his role and what it involves. As a class, we played a game which involved matching the types of weather and seasons. Next, we discussed how weather can [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We had a wonderful Now Press Play experience today! We ventured into one of the continents we have studied – The Arctic! We had to think about survival and thought about how it was different to our own continent of Europe.</p>

<p>To further our learning on rocks and fossils, Year 3 visited the Great North Museum. There we saw an amazing selection of rocks and gemstones. This reminded us of our learning of metamorphic rocks and how they are created. We saw dinosaur fossils and thought about how they were created. We even got time to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in geography we have been drawing maps of the classroom. To do this we used a key with symbols representing the different areas of the classroom. These included: home corner, reading corner, red table, blue table, green table and teacher’s desk. We began by moving large versions of the symbols around on the [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We had an amazing trip to Mr Thompson’s farm, Broxfield, near Alnwick. We started off our trip by exploring our way through his brand new pumpkin patch.
