Inspired by cave paintings from the Stone Age, Year 3 have enjoyed creating Prehistoric art. They began by drawing the outline of an animal using charcoal. Next, they created a Prehistoric palette by making paints out of natural materials such as grass, leaves, mud, tea, beetroot and raspberries. Finally, they used the palette to paint their animals. <p>We have been learning about the Continents of the world in our Geography topic this have term. We put our knowledge to the test this week by playing a matching card game in pairs. We had to see if we could match the continent maps to their name, it was lots of fun!</p>

<p>This week in History Year 1 have enjoyed learning about coal mining in the North East and the invention of the Miner’s Safety Lamp by George Stephenson. Firstly, we investigated sources and considered what it would be like to be in a mine underground. Next, we discussed the question: How could miner’s see underground? Finding [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; Reception class have enjoyed learning about the changes in winter. They used talk and art to share their understanding of the weather and types of clothes you need to stay warm. They were also introduced to the concept of hibernation and impressed us with their fantastic writing skills and ability to explain what hibernation [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 had a fantastic day at Seaton Delaval Hall today all linked to our current humanities unit on map skills. We practised 4 and 6-figure grid references, tried a bit of orienteering and started work on the 16-point compass. What a fantastic way to kick off our module in beautiful surroundings!</p>

<p>In our history lesson we split the class in half, one side was Athens and the other Sparta. Each city state argued their case of which was the best place to live. We then completed an anonymous vote. Athens was voted the best place to live!</p>

<p>Before half term Year 4 had the pleasure of spending the morning with Richard. We held artifacts from Ancient Greece and tried on armour that would have been worn by Greeks! We had a great time!</p>

<p>Before half term, Year 2 had a very exciting trip to the Laing Art Gallery. We finally got to meet our penpals from Belsay School. We had a fabulous time exploring the beautiful gardens and learning about the fascinating history of the estate and house. <p>We had a fantastic day at the Discovery Museum today. We took part in two workshops. Firstly, a workshop all about The Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. Fran, our leader at the museum, told us the story and we acted it out with noises and actions. We even took part in a puppet show [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 3 enjoyed a day trip to Beamish open museum, where we learned what life was like during and after the Victorian Era. We had a Victorian school experience where a very strict teacher showed us how to write by dipping into ink. We practised our handwriting, our times tables, recited poetry and drew a [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate Earth Day 2024, we discussed the importance of looking after our environment and made pledges to reduce the amount of plastic we use. We looked at the work of the artist, Michelle Reader and how she uses recycled materials to create her sculptures. We then made our own monster sculptures using recycled materials.</p>
