<p>We now have a new panel of School Councillors and Eco Squad members. Those children who were interested in the roles put their names forward and a secret vote was held in each classroom. We are sure that the School Council and Eco Squad members are going to do great things this year at St [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today, nurture group were tasked with finding the oldest tree in the school grounds. A tree expands by roughly 2 cm a year, so we worked out that if we measured all around the tree trunk and divided the measurement by 2, we could work out the age of the tree. <p>Nurture Group is currently looking after some caterpillars which will grow into Painted Lady butterflies. To make sure they have plenty of food when we release them, we have planted a butterfly garden in the Key Stage 1 yard. This is mainly made up of herbs such as marjoram, oregano and thyme which apparently these [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We had an amazing afternoon with Rob from Zoolab. He came into our classroom with a variety of animals for us to examine. This helped us with our work on classifying animals into different groups. With Rob, we looked at a snake, a giant land snail, a frog, a tarantula, a hissing cockroach and two [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in our weekly nurture group, we have been learning about birds and their life cycle. We learnt how to use a hammer and nails safely to construct our own bird box which will be going up in the school grounds. Hopefully some birds will nest in it over the next few years! &nbsp;</p>

<p>As part of our art work focusing upon the artist, John Constable, we talked about our own school landscape and what we could see in the distance.  We then went on to sketch the school landscape which included trees, buildings and fencing using light pencil strokes. &nbsp;</p>

<p>We selected leaves from our school environment and carefully applied different coloured paints with a paintbrush to the underside of the leaves.  Pressing firmly, we printed the leaf revealing its shape and veins.</p>

This continues to be crucial in improving safety around the school as well as [&hellip;]</p>

<p>As part of our Science work on Seasons and our on-going Eco project, Year 1 made bug hotels with Oscar from &#8216;The Nature Detective Company&#8217;. The hotels were made from wooden pallets filled with leaves to make a comfortable home for the insects in our St Lawrence&#8217;s garden. What a great day we had with [&hellip;]</p>
