<p>To celebrate finishing our class reader &#8216;The Butterfly Lion&#8217; by Michael Morpurgo, Year 4 made a butterfly lion of our own today. In the novel, the lion represents the friendship between Bertie, a boy who lives in Timbavati, South Africa, and a white lion cub he rescues twice, once from the veldt and once from [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Over the last week, the children have noticed some new signs around the KS1 and KS2 yards. We have new maps, maths displays and poems all around school. We hope they will inspire our pupils to become new geographers, scientists and poets!</p>

<p>Today we enjoyed a fabulous story writing workshop. We worked with a team of writers, illustrators, directors and playwrights to create our own story. We had such a wonderful time and impressed the editor! She even published our book!</p>

<p>Year have been studying the 1st half of Macbeth this week. At the end of Wednesday&#8217;s lesson we voted on the question ‘which character is more evil – Macbeth or Lady Macbeth?’  The first vote was 18 for Macbeth and 12 for Lady Macbeth. <p>Today we came to school wearing odd socks to celebrate how we are all different and unique. We listened to the story &#8216;Simon&#8217;s Sock&#8217; by Sue Hendra &amp; Paul Linnet and then decorated our own pair of odd socks. We discussed what it feels like when somebody is being unkind to us or somebody else [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Over the last few weeks, we have refreshed and updated our school library. It meant that we didn&#8217;t have space on our shelves for all of our books. So, we decided to share them with the children! Every child in school has received at least one book to take home, read and keep forever. We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we really got to know Mr Fox! We worked as a team to think of nouns, adjectives and similes to describe Mr Fox’s appearance, personality, family and interests. This will help us when planning a character description of him on Friday.</p>

<p>Reception parents were invited to join us for a reading and writing workshop to share how we teach phonics using our school&#8217;s scheme Little Wandle. The children enjoyed sharing all their super phonics skills such as recognising sounds, blending sounds to read words and segmenting to write simple words. Well done everyone!</p>

<p>Reception class loved learning about the season of autumn. They looked closely at the changes the environment and investigated autumn vegetables such as pumpkins. Everyone enjoyed our class trip to Jesmond Dene to hunt for signs of autumn and when we returned to school the children even used their super writing skills to label some [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception enjoyed learning about Bonfire night. They used art resources to create a bonfire whilst talking about how to keep safe, created their own firework pictures by copying patterns of fireworks in chalk on to black paper and they even showed off their blending skills by writing words such as &#8216;pop&#8217; to describe the sounds [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Some of our children from Years 3, 4 and 5 visited Seven Stories today where they met Lauren Child, the author of the Charlie and Lola books. She is the inspiration for this year&#8217;s Fenwick&#8217;s Christmas window! The children met Lauren and listened to her read an extract of Clarice Bean: Think Like an Elf. [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This term the Nursery children took part in their first educational visit and were very well behaved! We went to Jesmond Dene to look for signs of Autumn. We collected leaves and visited the animals in Pet&#8217;s Corner before sitting down for a drink and snack!  On our return, we listened to the story &#8216;Leaf [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have really enjoyed learning all about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Year 3. We have took part in lots of activities to learn about this special event. We looked at the Queen’s reign so far since 1952 and we learnt about the immediate Royal Family. We also zoomed in on the Queen’s reign during [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception enjoyed learning about Easter which is a very special time in the Church&#8217;s calendar! They created repeating patterns on Easter eggs: The Easter egg hunt was lots of fun: The children and families created wonderful egg designs for the school competition: Look at the wonderful cards we made in the creative area for our [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception class boys and girls have joined together this week to work on a joint Lenten project. We gathered lots of lovely story books which we planned to hide in the community for people to find and enjoy as part of our &#8216;giving&#8217; in Lent. &nbsp; Firstly Year 2 read the books and enjoyed all [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Last week it was lovely to be able to welcome our parents back into Nursery for our first Stay and Play session since Covid began!  We decided to also make it a celebration for Mother&#8217;s Day. The children loved having their mams and dads come to play with them at Nursery and they enjoyed showing [&hellip;]</p>

<p>What an exciting afternoon we had! We visited East End Library on Shields Road. Our lovely librarian read a fantastic picture book to us, ‘One Button Benny,’ by Alan Windram. We then decorated our own robots like Benny. We then got the opportunity to look around the children’s section and to choose our own library [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 enjoyed a visit to Byker Library today. We enjoyed listening to a story read by Joanne the Librarian. We got to choose a book to bring back to school. Joanne even let us scan out our own books! &nbsp;</p>

<p>Today we had a wonderful trip to Beamish Museum! We were transported back in time to the Victorian era, as we dressed up as Victorian school children. We experienced a Victorian lesson in the Beamish Board School where we had to work completely in silence! Next we walked into the town and visited the terraced [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We are really enjoying our Victorians topic in Humanities! Today we learnt all about a significant Victorian the inventor and engineer, George Stephenson. He is often called the ‘father of the railway,’ and was born locally in Northumberland. We opened up his suitcase and started to think about who he was and why he is [&hellip;]</p>
