<p>Year 4 have been working closely with the Heritage Lottery Fund over the last few months. As a parting gift, they have kindly provided us with a huge selection of books related to World War One. <p>Today we had a wonderful trip to Beamish Museum! We were transported back in time to the Victorian era, as we dressed up as Victorian school children. We experienced a Victorian lesson where we had to work completely in silence! We visited some houses in the village and learnt about traditional rug and blanket making. [&hellip;]</p>

<p>World Book Day was on the 7th of March. Year 4 were lucky enough to already have links with two amazing, local authors; Neil Tonge and Peter Hepplewhite. Both authors write historical fiction and non-fiction. Year 4 had a great time discussing what its takes to become a great author and they found out that [&hellip;]</p>

<p>World Book Day 2019 &nbsp; On World Book Day we dressed up as different book characters. &nbsp; &nbsp; We brought the book where our character is found. We spent the day listening to and talking about stories by different authors. We learnt a lot about the authors. We also enjoyed some quiet reading time. We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day in Year 3! Children dresses up as their favourite characters to celebrate. We had some time in our lovely new KS2 library and continued our reading of ‘Ice Cat,’ by Linda Newberry and ‘The Creakers’ by Tom Fletcher.</p>

<p>Key Stage 1 joined the St Lawrence&#8217;s School Spelling Bee in January. In our phonic groups we all learned a number of spellings. <p>Over the last three weeks there has been a great buzz about spelling across St Lawrence&#8217;s. The whole school has been avidly learning all of their class spelling lists. Excitement has grown quickly, as we all participated in many spelling games, competitions and knock out rounds. Eventually, we held a KS2 Spelling Bee in our [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; Today Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous story writing workshop. We worked with a team of writers, illustrators, directors and playwrights to create our own story. We had such a wonderful time and impressed the editor! She even published our booked called, ‘The Magical Cat.’</p>

<p>Year 5 have been working super hard in English lessons this week. Our writing focus is poetry and we have been exploring &#8216;Twas the Night Before Christmas&#8217;. Working in groups, we were given the task of memorising, acting out and reciting two verses from the poem to the class. I was super impressed with how well the [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we &#8216;officially&#8217; opened our brand new school library. Mr Brown cut the ribbon, watched by our School Council members and Head Boy and Girl. Afterwards the children in every class had the opportunity to visit and explore our collection of high quality texts. All children received sweets and a bookmark to celebrate the opening. <p>Year 2 met their penpals from Belsay Primary School today for the first time. This is part of a school Linking Project linking rural and city schools. The children have exchanged letters and postcards and today we met for the first time. We played lots of &#8216;Getting to know you games&#8217; We then split into [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Last month, we entered a Poetry Competition organised by EYPS (Teaching Supply Organisation) We had to write a descriptive poem about Autumn. Our school won a runner up prize of £50 to buy books for our brand new library. Thanks to all our fantastic poets &#8211; Lola and Ketsie from Y5, Julia, Cassey, Millie and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 invited parents to take part in a Literacy workshop. This was part of Year Two&#8217;s Literacy Unit about Poetry. Parents worked with their children to devise and perform poems about fireworks. It was an exciting afternoon with some wonderful poetry performances!</p>

<p>Year 2 visited Byker Library with our parents. We enjoyed reading stories together and we each chose a book to read at school.</p>
