<p>This week Reception have enjoyed exploring our key text Handa&#8217;s Surprise. They used cooking tools to prepare the fruit themselves and loved tasting the fruit! They then used the experience to complete some fantastic writing to describe the fruit! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>Today Year 2 enjoyed taking part in a ZOOM with our penpals from Belsay school. We are taking part in The Linking Project which links schools from different geographical environments. Both schools read the book; Incredible You; We thought about the things which make us unique. We recorded these on a book work. We also [&hellip;]</p>

<p>It is a very exciting time in Reception! The children are becoming more confident with their super phonics skills and they are applying them in their play by writing words independently. We are very proud of all your hard work! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>When is a stick not a stick? If you ask Reception I am sure they will share lots of ideas! As part of our literacy curriculum the children have been using their imagination to change sticks into lots of different objects. They have also been using their fantastic phonics knowledge to record their ideas in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception had lots of fun in the snow! They practised writing their name and letter sounds in the snow. It was a great opportunity to explore the changes in the seasons and allowed us to reflect and compare with our melting ice investigation last week.</p>

<p>On Friday we enjoyed a fabulous story writing workshop at Live Tales, part of Live Theatre, We worked with a team of writers, illustrators, directors and playwrights to create our own story. We had such a wonderful time and impressed the editor, who had originally believed that children couldn&#8217;t write exciting stories &#8211; we soon [&hellip;]</p>

<p>There were smiles and laughter all around when our Nursery and Reception children visited the Northern Stage Theatre to see &#8216;The Three Bears&#8217;! They watched and listened so well as the story was acted out and they had great fun dancing to the music and joining in with the actions. What a wonderful day we [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 enjoyed reading the book The Dot by Peter H Reynolds &nbsp; &nbsp; . We were inspired to produce some fantastic art work like the character in the story. We learnt a lot about colour mixing whilst we were experimenting! What an exciting afternoon!</p>

<p>It was lovely to get to know all of our new nursery children by visiting them at home with their families. They each enjoyed receiving their new book as a welcome gift. What an exciting year we are going to have with them all!</p>
