<p>We created a whole school art display to celebrate Remembrance Day and brighten up the exterior of our school. Every child in school created their own poppy using a range of media and techniques.  The Nursery children made collage poppies using assorted paper and pva glue, they also experienced print making for the first time [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we enjoyed working in small groups to produce a presentation all about a piece of natural geography in London, the River Thames. We researched using the internet, books and fact sheets and collated our ideas on sugar paper. We then took it in turns in our groups to present our ideas to the class.</p>

<p>Today we lead and presented Mass in church for the very first time. Our reading of the day was from Ephesians 1:1-10. All readers read beautifully and the whole class represented our school wonderfully.</p>

<p>Prioritising mental health has never been more important than it is now and to celebrate World Mental Health Day we all came together as a school to support the charity &#8216;Young Minds&#8217; by wearing something yellow to school for &#8216;Hello Yellow&#8217; on Friday.  We wanted to encourage the children to think about happy thoughts and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week a number of Year 1 pupils returned to school after a 12 week period of home learning. They were all so pleased to see some of their friends again and begin learning in school. <p>In Year 3, we have been enjoying reading Hansel and Gretel by Anthony Browne. We split the story into three parts; the beginning, the middle and the ending. We have discussed in small groups the features of a fairytale and how Browne’s version also includes these conventions. Over this topic, we have developed our skills [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We all enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch on Tuesday. A big thank you to Gillian our cook, the kitchen staff and the dinner ladies. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a day of Christmas crafts day on Thursday 13th December. We made a variety of glittery Christmas crafts and had a fun day.</p>

<p>To celebrate the end of The Year of Mercy The St Lawrence&#8217;s Mini Vinnies led a whole school collection of school bags and supplies for the charity: Mary&#8217;s Meals. We collected 24 backpacks in total. Well done this was an excellent effort and the back packs are now parcelled up and sent off to Africa.</p>

<p>EYFS and KS1 had a fun filled afternoon yesterday to mark the end of a very successful year. We played party games and enjoyed dancing. We even had a Strictly Come Dancing Competition! We ended by eating some delicious party food. What a wonderful end to a super year! &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>Early Years and Key Stage 1 had a fantastic visit to Northumberland Park yesterday. We all travelled together on two buses to Tynemouth. We started by having juice and biscuits together before we embarked on a carousel of exciting activities. We enjoyed collecting items from the environment and doing observational drawings. Everyone had great fun [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; This Sunday 11 children from Year 4 received communion for the first time at St Lawrence&#8217;s Church. They were supported by a large number of their friends and teachers from school who sang in the choir. This was a memorable occasion for the school and the parish. The children performed a beautiful Liturgical dance to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2 got a lovely  surprise after lunch today; the Easter bunny had  visited school and had hidden some Easter eggs! We all had a great time hopping around the yard like bunnies to look for them. What a lovely end to our Spring Term! &nbsp;</p>

<p>We were happy to invite Mrs Cooper back to school to take part in our Prayer Spaces week. Mrs Cooper planned a fascinating Godly Play experience for every class in the school. Mrs Cooper also told a story to the whole school and parents after school. This was a very sociable occasion. A big thank [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We were pleased to welcome back The Vineyard Church last week for our fifth annual Prayer Spaces. The week was a beautiful spiritual week around the I am statements said by Jesus. The children were involved in a number of creative activities linked to the statements, joined by parents and parishioners. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Year 2 enjoyed experimenting with snow. We had a competition to make the roundest snowball. We made miniature snow people! We made snow castles. We then observed how long it took for our creations to melt.</p>

<p>In a few weeks time, Year 5 will be visiting Matfen Farm in Northumberland to see lambing in progress. Mr. Thompson, the farmer, visited our class today to talk to us about life on the farm, jobs that farming creates, how crops are grown and how animals are reared. <p>As part of our Design Technology topic, Year 5 designed and made a toy with moving parts. The children learnt about all the different parts inside a moving toy, and the movement they would create. Pupils then designed a polar scene as the front of their toy, and watched with joy as their polar animals [&hellip;]</p>
