<p>Year 2 have enjoyed learning all about the reign of Queen Elizabeth ll as part  our history unit about Famous People. We compared the the reign of Queen Elizabeth ll with Queen Victoria. &nbsp; We drew portraits of the Queen and then we looked at the work of Andy Warhol and the Pop Art style [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have really enjoyed learning all about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Year 3. We have took part in lots of activities to learn about this special event. We looked at the Queen’s reign so far since 1952 and we learnt about the immediate Royal Family. We also zoomed in on the Queen’s reign during [&hellip;]</p>

<p>In Year 1 this term we have been learning about sculpture. The children wanted to find out more so we booked a trip to Shipley Art gallery and had so much fun! &nbsp; The children spent the morning finding out about the famous sculpture, &#8216;The Angel of the North&#8217; by the artist, Antony Gormley. <p>Reception enjoyed learning about Easter which is a very special time in the Church&#8217;s calendar! They created repeating patterns on Easter eggs: The Easter egg hunt was lots of fun: The children and families created wonderful egg designs for the school competition: Look at the wonderful cards we made in the creative area for our [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We really enjoyed designing and making Easter baskets! We will use them to carry home our Easter chocolate treats. We used basket cut outs as a base and used tissue paper and coloured pencils to decorate our baskets. In addition to this, we added paper flower buds, pearls, diamantes, buttons, ribbons and Easter shapes. We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Thank you to everyone who entered our Easter Egg competition &#8211; a tradition which returned today after a two year break. As ever, all of your entries were colourful, creative and fun! Well done to everyone who took part! We wish you a very happy and prayerful Easter.  </p>

<p>Today we had an Easter egg decorating competition in school. We all enjoyed looking at the different egg creations. We were able to award prizes to everyone and a first, second and third prizes for the overall winners. <p>This morning choir and orchestra performed our concert, ‘Friendship,’ for the whole school but also for our adults. A very well done to all members of Choir and Orchestra from Years 4, 5 and 6! <p>Last week it was lovely to be able to welcome our parents back into Nursery for our first Stay and Play session since Covid began!  We decided to also make it a celebration for Mother&#8217;s Day. The children loved having their mams and dads come to play with them at Nursery and they enjoyed showing [&hellip;]</p>

<p>What an exciting afternoon we had! We visited East End Library on Shields Road. Our lovely librarian read a fantastic picture book to us, ‘One Button Benny,’ by Alan Windram. We then decorated our own robots like Benny. We then got the opportunity to look around the children’s section and to choose our own library [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we had a wonderful trip to Beamish Museum! We were transported back in time to the Victorian era, as we dressed up as Victorian school children. We experienced a Victorian lesson in the Beamish Board School where we had to work completely in silence! Next we walked into the town and visited the terraced [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We really enjoyed designing and making cards for the special ladies who look after us. We used basket cut outs as a base, adding paper flower buds in complimentary colours to create a bouquet. We used pearls as well as pink and silver diamante jewels to add sparkle to our cards. Happy Mother&#8217;s Day to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>On Wednesday, Year 3 had a fabulous workshop with local Liturgical Dance Company, More than Dance. We learnt a beautiful Liturgical Dance to The Risen Christ (Doxology) by Margaret Becker, Kristyn Getty and Joanne Hogg. This piece combined flowing dance sequences and British Sign Language. <p>We are really enjoying our Victorians topic in Humanities! Today we learnt all about a significant Victorian the inventor and engineer, George Stephenson. He is often called the ‘father of the railway,’ and was born locally in Northumberland. We opened up his suitcase and started to think about who he was and why he is [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we got involved in an exciting science workshop with Technology Tom! We explored magnetism to fit in with our current topic. Tom demonstrated a few different experiments to us that showed just how powerful magnets are! These demonstrations included; a magnet fishing game, a compass demonstration and a demonstration which showed how magnets attract [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week Nursery and Reception Class celebrated World Book Day by focusing on the story &#8216;The Smeds and The Smoos&#8217; by Julia Donaldson &amp; Axel Scheffler.   The Nursery children dressed up in blue like the Smoo characters in the story and the Reception children dressed in red like the Smeds. <p>This year for World Book Day, Mrs Garforth looked at &#8216;Pugs of the Frozen North,&#8217; by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. Each class from Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 learnt a little bit about the fantastic story about Shen and Sika and a pug-pulled sleigh ride to the North Pole! We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This morning we had a great workshop with Rosie from the Worry Wizard. We thought about how everyone has worries and we are not alone. We also thought about things we like to do to look after our Wellbeing, and how Wellbeing really means, ‘Being Well.’ Finally, we discussed activities we like to do that [&hellip;]</p>

<p>For our new RE topic, we are thinking about Listening and Sharing in relation to the Eucharist. To begin our topic, the children worked in groups to perform the story of ‘Stone Soup.’ We discussed the themes of the story and the advantages of listening and sharing.</p>
