<p>The Nursery children have enjoyed exploring our painting area.  They have used thick brushes and chosen from a range of coloured paints to create their first paintings which we have displayed in the classroom. We have some budding little artists in Nursery!</p>

<p>Year 4 had a fantastic visit to the Laing Art Gallery today to tie in with our &#8216;Autumn&#8217; art topic. We began by looking at the work of the famous north-east engraver and printmaker Thomas Bewick, and sketching leaves from artworks around the gallery. The children loved listening to the story and expressed their understanding by creating their own dots using printing and collage skills. <p>Year 2 enjoyed reading the book The Dot by Peter H Reynolds &nbsp; &nbsp; . We were inspired to produce some fantastic art work like the character in the story. We learnt a lot about colour mixing whilst we were experimenting! What an exciting afternoon!</p>

<p>Last week, the whole school celebrated Languages Day. The theme was food from French speaking countries which made everyone happy! Natalie Paris, a French story-teller performed stories in French to the children, there was a pop-up French cafe in school and each class enjoyed watching a film in French. It was a fantastic day full [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 have enjoyed having pen pals from Belsay school throughout this school year through The Linking Project. sadly we have not been able to meet up with our pen pals this year but we have kept in touch throughout the year by writing letters, exchanging postcards, sending pictures and even writing acrostic poems about [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This term, Nursery have enjoyed taking part in a Circus Stories Programme.  They have listened to and joined in with some fabulous stories read by Megan from Seven Stories and they have been taught some new and exciting circus skills such as plate spinning, flower sticks and juggling by Paul from Circus Central.  We have [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Last Term, our Nursery children enjoyed looking at Traditional Tale Stories.  We talked about the different characters and how each story has a beginning, middle and end.   We did lots of exciting activities linked to each story including making up our own characters,  choosing our own ending to the story and tasting yummy gingerbread men.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 used the song ‘Derby Day’ by Maz O’Conner to inspire them to write a narrative from the point of view of the character used to narrate the story. The song is about a young boy who attends the 1913 Derby with his father but then witnesses the terrible death of the Suffragette Emily [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in Year 4 nurture group, we have been creating art inspired by trees. We have been learning how to use chalks to create different effects. As you can see, Charis enjoyed the blending part very much!</p>

<p>Last week we were excited to try the different fruits featured in ‘Handa’s Surprise!’ We tried: avocado, orange, pineapple, passionfruit, bananas mangos and guava juice! &nbsp;</p>

<p>As part of our PSHE Recovery Curriculum, every Wednesday afternoon our Nursery and Reception Class children have joined together to take part in circle time activities, music and ring games.  As you can see we have had lots of fun in the school hall!</p>

<p>Today we had a wonderful liturgy for our parents and guardians to finish off our topic on ‘Pentecost : Energy.’ We have recorded our liturgy and uploaded it on youtube for all our families to watch at home.
