<p>As part of their Science work in Year 1 the children have been observing changes in the seasons. After collecting different kinds of fallen leaves from the trees in our school playground, the children went on to create hedgehog pictures using the leaves that they had collected as the hedgehog&#8217;s spikes. <p>Year 6 had an incredible time creating their own music with instruments from around the world &#8211; thanks to a series of apps on their ipads. The pupils were able to compose, improvise and design using a huge range of software instruments, synthesisers, and digital audio workstations. We looked at examples from real Stone Age caves and thought about the different art materials Stone Age people would have had to use, they definitely would of made use of anything they had! <p>At St Lawrence&#8217;s we are passionate about Reading.  We recognise the importance of developing children’s word-reading skills and comprehension, but also their love of books and reading. <p>Yesterday The Shipley Art Gallery visited Year Two . Year 2 enjoyed taking part in two fantastic workshops about portraits. We learnt all about the artist; Picasso and his abstract approach to making portraits and we had a try at this style. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>Year 2 visited The Laing Art Gallery today. We took part in a workshop in The Portrait Gallery looking at the stories and emotions behind the paintings. We made some large pictures depicting the story of Jack and The Beanstalk. We had a wonderful day.  </p>

<p>Our KS2 choir and orchestra had a wonderful time this morning performing for the residents of St Joseph&#8217;s. The children have been working very hard since Easter, rehearsing during lunchtimes and after school to produce a tribute concert to &#8216;Stage and Screen.&#8217; They performed songs from films and musicals such as ,The Greatest Showman, Annie, [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today EYFS and KS1 joined together to take part in an exciting sports carousel. We worked together in teams to complete a number of challenges. At the end we all had a well deserved ice lolly! Years 1 and 2 enjoyed some competitive races, some children even won medals! What a great morning!</p>

<p>Today Year 3 repeated their &#8216;Polynesian Performance&#8217; for the residents of St Joseph&#8217;s retirement home in Elswick. The children behaved wonderfully and were a credit to themselves and the school. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Well done, Year 3!</p>

<p>Year 3 have worked especially hard this year putting together their very own production, ‘Polynesian Performance.’ We have been studying the Hawaiian Islands as a part of our Volcanoes humanities studies, which the children have really enjoyed. The piece combines dance, music and drama in a retelling of a traditional Polynesian creation story. All children [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&#8220;Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble…&#8221; Year 6 relished the opportunity to work with Konflux Theatre to produce a &#8216;Play in a Day&#8217;.  After studying the Shakespeare play, Macbeth, earlier in the year, they were given the chance to show off their knowledge of the characters and the twists and turns [&hellip;]</p>

We met up with a number of other schools to take part in The Big Sing &nbsp; We have been practising a number of songs around the theme of Going A Journey. for around 2 months now. We worked closely with the artist; learning new artistic skills crucial to creating print inspired by Thomas Bewick’s designs.
