<p>Our KS2 Orchestra had a wonderful performance on Tuesday afternoon where we celebrated music from the 1980s! We have worked so hard on this concert, with all members reading printed sheet music for the first time! Our audience were captivated and sang along!</p>

<p>&nbsp; In our last forest school session for the year, Year 5 Nurture Group brought together many of the skills they have been learning this year: whittling skills, campfire building and campfire lighting. The children are now so skilled that they needed minimal input from Mrs. Villalobos and they independently built a campfire, correctly layering [&hellip;]</p>

<p>For the last 3 years, our Key Stage pupils have been having a 45 minute French lesson every week. In these lessons, they learn the vocabulary, grammar and phonics of French. <p>Last week, we were visited by Teatre sans Frontiers- a theatre company that performs plays in other languages. We were amazed as the hall was transformed into a tropical island and some very interesting characters came to greet us! The children had a wonderful time watching the play and joining in in French. <p>Yesterday our Year 3 class joined lots of other Year 3 classes from across Newcastle to gather at St Cuthbert&#8217;s High School to take part in a fantastic Skipping Festival!The children had a fabulous time, learning new skipping techniques and gaining confidence.</p>

<p>Today we all planted a sweet pea seed. We placed the seed in compost and made sure it had plenty of water to drink. Our seeds need sunlight, water and warmth to survive so we will make sure we look after our seedling every day. We also placed one seedling in a dark cupboard, one [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We mixed baking soda, vinegar and red food colouring to create an active erupting volcano in our classroom today! Although real volcanoes do not contain any of these ingredients, it created a similar effect as pressure built and an eruption occurred!</p>

<p>On Wednesday Reception had a fantastic trip to White House Farm to learn about changes in spring and animals. The children loved the hands on experience of feeding the farm animals: Reception loved the tractor ride: There was even time some play: Well done Reception! &nbsp;</p>

<p>Today we had a wonderful trip to Beamish Museum! We were transported back in time to the Victorian era, as we dressed up as Victorian school children. We experienced a Victorian lesson in the Beamish Board School where we had to work completely in silence! Next we walked into the town and visited the terraced [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week we started our maths topic on Fractions. We started off our learning by using lots of concrete resources to explore how fractions work. We thought about naming fractions, the language of fractions and thinking about fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions.  &nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

<p>A huge well done to Shyheim in Year 5, whose French work was chosen to be published in the magazine Write Away! This magazine celebrates primary children&#8217;s writing in foreign languages. <p>We had a fantastic afternoon taking part in another Now Press Play experience. In today’s experience we were a worker in Victorian England. Conditions and pay for workers we so unfair that we decided to go on strike!</p>

<p>Today we took part in a measurement carousel in class. We used our own rulers to think about measuring objects in our classroom. We also began thinking about the difference between, mm, cm and m. We worked on holding our rulers carefully so we could read our measurements accurately.</p>

<p>Today we got involved in an exciting science workshop with Technology Tom! We explored magnetism to fit in with our current topic. Tom demonstrated a few different experiments to us that showed just how powerful magnets are! These demonstrations included; a magnet fishing game, a compass demonstration and a demonstration which showed how magnets attract [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To introduce our new RE topic, Listening and Sharing (Eucharist), the children worked in groups to perform the story of ‘Stone Soup.’ We discussed the themes of the story and the advantages of listening and sharing.</p>

<p>This week we have been looking at properties of 3D shapes and doubling and halving. We had lots of fun on Friday working with concrete and pictorial resources to revise these concepts and learn some new ones!</p>

<p>To celebrate Chinese New Year this week, we had a very fun maths lesson today playing with Chinese tangrams. They are Chinese jigsaw puzzles and we had to think pragmatically to create new pictures from the pieces.</p>
