<p>Today in Key Stage 2, we celebrated Languages Day. Our theme this year was Fete de la Musique or World Music Day; a celebration of music which started in France. <p>We have really enjoyed learning all about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Year 3. We have took part in lots of activities to learn about this special event. We looked at the Queen’s reign so far since 1952 and we learnt about the immediate Royal Family. We also zoomed in on the Queen’s reign during [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We were very lucky today to have a visit from Claire, an audiologist from the team at NE1 Hear at the Freeman Hospital. Claire talked about the different parts of the ear, let us try a bone-mounted hearing aid, taught us how to look after our hearing and even showed us the inside of one [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 1 and Year 2 had an exciting morning taking part in St Lawrence&#8217;s Big Quiz. The children were put into teams and were asked questions based upon what they have learnt in History, Geography and Science. Mr Brown, our quiz master, asked questions set by Miss Murray and the children worked together in their [&hellip;]</p>

<p>What an exciting morning we had today! We took part in our first ever Big Quiz. The Quiz involved working in teams to answer key questions from our previous History, Geography and Science topics. The topics covered included: The Stone Age, Newcastle and London and Animals Including Humans. There were also some bonus rounds which [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today we had a wonderful trip to Beamish Museum! We were transported back in time to the Victorian era, as we dressed up as Victorian school children. We experienced a Victorian lesson in the Beamish Board School where we had to work completely in silence! Next we walked into the town and visited the terraced [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We are really enjoying our Victorians topic in Humanities! Today we learnt all about a significant Victorian the inventor and engineer, George Stephenson. He is often called the ‘father of the railway,’ and was born locally in Northumberland. We opened up his suitcase and started to think about who he was and why he is [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Technology Tom visited Year 2 today as part of our work on Materials in Science. We looked at lots of different types of materials and talked about their origins and their uses. <p>This week Nursery and Reception Class celebrated World Book Day by focusing on the story &#8216;The Smeds and The Smoos&#8217; by Julia Donaldson &amp; Axel Scheffler.   The Nursery children dressed up in blue like the Smoo characters in the story and the Reception children dressed in red like the Smeds. <p>As part of World Book Day celebrations, KS2 explored four different books during the day.  Miss Davidson chose the Dam, a picture book based on a true story about the building of Kielder Reservoir. We started the session by discussing change in our lives and how it can be both a good and bad experience.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 took part in a fabulous experience yesterday; we visited The Heritage Centre in Gateshead to learn more about The Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle. We walked along the Quayside on the Gateshead side of The River Tyne and saw the exact spot where the fire began in the Warehouse. We looked at [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have had a fantastic time learning about Chinese New Year! We learnt about the country of China, and located it on a map of the world. We learnt about Chinese culture, played with Chinese Tangrams (jigsaws) and finally learn about the classic story of the Race of the Animals. We had so much fun [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week Reception have enjoyed exploring our key text Handa&#8217;s Surprise. They used cooking tools to prepare the fruit themselves and loved tasting the fruit! They then used the experience to complete some fantastic writing to describe the fruit! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>Year 4 visited the Discovery Museum as part of our Humanities unit &#8216;Changing Jobs.&#8217; We focussed on the different jobs involved in shipbuilding. These jobs were historically very important in Byker, but now very few people in Newcastle work in this industry in the secondary sector, We began with a look at Turbinia, one of [&hellip;]</p>

We acted out the events of the fire and we began to understand how the fire spread so quickly. We handled real artefacts from [&hellip;]</p>
