<p>This week Nursery and Reception Class celebrated World Book Day by focusing on the story &#8216;The Smeds and The Smoos&#8217; by Julia Donaldson &amp; Axel Scheffler.   The Nursery children dressed up in blue like the Smoo characters in the story and the Reception children dressed in red like the Smeds. <p>As part of World Book Day celebrations, KS2 explored four different books during the day.  Miss Davidson chose the Dam, a picture book based on a true story about the building of Kielder Reservoir. We started the session by discussing change in our lives and how it can be both a good and bad experience.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This year for World Book Day, Mrs Garforth looked at &#8216;Pugs of the Frozen North,&#8217; by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. Each class from Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 learnt a little bit about the fantastic story about Shen and Sika and a pug-pulled sleigh ride to the North Pole! We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 had a fantastic 1st day as part of a week-long project with IntoUniversity Newcastle East. The scheme &#8211; in partnership with Newcastle University and Northumbria University &#8211; is designed to give children a glimpse into life at Further Education.  Year 6 are following an engineering syllabus this week, which includes a trip to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week Reception have enjoyed exploring our key text Handa&#8217;s Surprise. They used cooking tools to prepare the fruit themselves and loved tasting the fruit! They then used the experience to complete some fantastic writing to describe the fruit! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>Today Year 2 enjoyed taking part in a ZOOM with our penpals from Belsay school. We are taking part in The Linking Project which links schools from different geographical environments. Both schools read the book; Incredible You; We thought about the things which make us unique. We recorded these on a book work. We also [&hellip;]</p>

<p>When is a stick not a stick? If you ask Reception I am sure they will share lots of ideas! As part of our literacy curriculum the children have been using their imagination to change sticks into lots of different objects. They have also been using their fantastic phonics knowledge to record their ideas in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have enjoyed a busy few weeks in Nursery!  The children have learnt lots of new skills and taken part in a range of activities linked to our &#8216;All about me&#8217; and &#8216;Autumn&#8217; topics. We have read many stories but a particular favourite was &#8216;Leaf Man&#8217; by Lois Ehlert.   The children were introduced to printing [&hellip;]</p>

<p>There were smiles and laughter all around when our Nursery and Reception children visited the Northern Stage Theatre to see &#8216;The Three Bears&#8217;!  They watched and listened so well as the story was acted out and they had great fun dancing to the music and joining in with the actions.  What a wonderful day we [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 have enjoyed having pen pals from Belsay school throughout this school year through The Linking Project. sadly we have not been able to meet up with our pen pals this year but we have kept in touch throughout the year by writing letters, exchanging postcards, sending pictures and even writing acrostic poems about [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 have enjoyed reading, writing and reciting poems this week. We have enjoyed reading different types of poems and performing them with actions. We chose our favourite poem to write and perform. We also made finger puppets to use to illustrate and perform our poems. &nbsp;</p>

<p>This term, Nursery have enjoyed taking part in a Circus Stories Programme.  They have listened to and joined in with some fabulous stories read by Megan from Seven Stories and they have been taught some new and exciting circus skills such as plate spinning, flower sticks and juggling by Paul from Circus Central.  We have [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Last Term, our Nursery children enjoyed looking at Traditional Tale Stories.  We talked about the different characters and how each story has a beginning, middle and end.   We did lots of exciting activities linked to each story including making up our own characters,  choosing our own ending to the story and tasting yummy gingerbread men.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>For World Book Day we read a lovely story called Luna Loves Library, about a little girl who likes to meet her dad at the library to read their favourite story books. We visited our school library and chose our own favourite story books and then we wrote about them.</p>

<p>Year 3 have been producing some superb work this week from home! We have been looking at telling the time in maths, different word families in literacy, practising our 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s and 4s times tables and produced some imaginative writing about snowy and icy weather.Well done, Year 3! <p>We are just completing our Y6 RE Topic which is called Vocation and Commitment. In pairs, we carried out research into the lives of people who answered God&#8217;s call in a special way and lived out their calling through their chosen vocation.  Then we used our speaking and listening skills to present our findings to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in Year 2 we have been thinking about feelings. We have based our work around the book Ruby&#8217;s Worry by Tom Percival. This book has helped us think about our feelings and work out what to do when we are worried. In our Literacy lessons we have worked on our prediction skills. We [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Since returning to school In September, the children in Year 1 have been talking a lot about themselves and how special they are in the world. They focused on the book, &#8216;Here We Are&#8217; by Oliver Jeffers and produced artwork and pieces of writing based upon the story. What a fabulous job they did!</p>
