<p>Last term, Year 6 studied &#8216;A Christmas Carol&#8217; by Charles Dickens. Before looking at the actual text, we explored the question: Who was Charles Dickens? We researched his background and considered what life was like for people living in Victorian England. Dickens was writing during the Industrial Revolution in London and there was a huge contrast [&hellip;]</p>

We have discussed in small groups the features of a fairytale and how Browne’s version also includes these conventions. Over this topic, we have developed our skills [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This year, all the children at St Lawrence&#8217;s received a special Christmas gift &#8211; a brand new book! Year 6 were thrilled with their choice and couldn&#8217;t wait to get reading&#8230;</p>

<p>Every Wednesday lunchtime, we have Story Club for Year 3 and 4. The children look forward to choosing and listening to a variety of different stories and poems. At St Lawrence&#8217;s we are always working hard to increase our children’s access to high quality texts, improve vocabulary, challenge children to become more confident, keen and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>At the beginning of the lesson we voted on the question ‘which character is more evil – Macbeth or Lady Macbeth?’ The first vote was 18 for Macbeth and 10 for Lady Macbeth. We had a secret ballot to ensure people were voting individually. We then split into groups came up with the reasons we [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Years 1 and 2 invited parents to join them today for a reading workshop. Parents found out about reading in KS 1. Parents were told about how we value reading in school; At St Lawrence’s, we value reading as a key life skill and are fully committed to enabling our children to become competent and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>As part of our WW2 topic this term, Year 6 went back in time to find out what it was like to be evacuated from a city to the countryside during the war. We were met by Farmer George and put straight to work, making carrot cookies, putting up the blackout on the windows and [&hellip;]</p>

<p>At St Lawrence&#8217;s we are passionate about Reading. We recognise the importance of developing children’s word-reading skills and comprehension, but also their love of books and reading. This year we are thrilled to be working in partnership with Seven Stories &#8211; the National Centre for Children&#8217;s Books. . They have placed a member of staff into our [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 enjoyed taking part in a Hobby Day in school as part our work about Ourselves. We enjoyed sharing information about our hobbies with the rest of the class and showing our skills. We asked our friends questions about their hobbies. We have really enjoyed learning about our friend&#8217;s hobbies.</p>

<p>&#8220;Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble…&#8221; Year 6 relished the opportunity to work with Konflux Theatre to produce a &#8216;Play in a Day&#8217;. After studying the Shakespeare play, Macbeth, earlier in the year, they were given the chance to show off their knowledge of the characters and the twists and turns [&hellip;]</p>

They saw his original writing manuscripts and learnt about his inspirations. Year 6 had a look at lots of his other stories before [&hellip;]</p>
