<p>What an exciting afternoon we had! We visited East End Library on Shields Road, linked to our work on ‘Luna Loves Library Day,’ by Joseph Coelho. <p>Last week was our Autumn Music Week Across school. In all classes, we covered Listening and Appreciation, listening and responding to particular greats and legends of different genres of music. It gave the children the opportunity to listen to and respond to varied music they may not normally listen to.</p>

<p>Mr Olatunji came into school with his ipads and helped Year 6 compose their own music that conveyed different types of emotion.  He highlighted the incredible work of Hans Zimmer, who has been responsible for scores from films such The Lion King, Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean.  We used loops and instrument effects to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Our KS2 Orchestra had a wonderful performance on Tuesday afternoon where we celebrated music from the 1980s! We have worked so hard on this concert, with all members reading printed sheet music for the first time! Our audience were captivated and sang along!</p>

<p>Over the last few weeks, the Nursery children have thoroughly enjoyed looking after our caterpillars and watching them transform into butterflies! . They have observed the changes and learned all about the life cycle from an egg to a butterfly. We have read lots of non fiction and fiction books to help us, including &#8216;The [&hellip;]</p>

<p>As part of our art curriculum, we have been learning about sculpture. We booked a trip to the Shipley Art Gallery to find out more! We spent the morning finding out about the sculpture, &#8216;The Angel of the North&#8217; by the artist, Antony Gormley. We then went on to create our own using different materials. [&hellip;]</p>

<p>As a school we were delighted to take part in the first Bishop Bewick Art Exhibition. The event is to help celebrate our key values of being stronger together and greater than the sum of our parts. Each class took part and spent a day working together to produce some fabulous pieces of work for [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The Nursery children had a great time celebrating our new King and Queen. They enjoyed learning about our Royal Family and taking part in lots of &#8216;royal&#8217; activities, including pretending to be the King! They made their own crowns and we had a picnic and played party games. &#8216;God save the King!&#8217;</p>

<p>Year 3 had a wonderful trip to Seven Stories this morning!It was a trip to celebrate our attendance success &#8211; well done Year 3!We arrived at Seven Stories and spent sometime in the gallery exploring the interactive exhibits. <p>Reception class welcomed their families into school for a class Lenten liturgical prayer this week. The children shared how they have been trying to grow more like Jesus during Lent. The children then worked with their family to create an Easter Bonnet in our craft workshop. Everyone enjoyed the Easter bonnet parade outside, where they [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have received some amazing entries for our Egg Decorating Competition, from Reception all the way up to Year 6! Everyone who entered showed great creativity and imagination. It is has been very difficult to choose winners from each class but they will be announced in Celebration Assembly. All of the entries will go home [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2 had a fabulous day yesterday making lots of Easter crafts. We worked in small mixed class groups making lots of different things with an Easter theme. We had an amazing day!</p>

<p>Last week Reception class had a special delivery of eggs from the &#8216;Living Egg&#8217; Project. The eggs were kept in an incubator until we welcomed six chicks to our class! The children have observed the changes in the chicks carefully and supported them in their knowledge and understanding of the life cycle of a chicken, [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception class loved our focus book Handa&#8217;s Surprise! As part of our learning the children worked in groups to sequence the story, developing their team work and comprehension skills: The children had the opportunity to taste the seven delicious fruits in the story: Using this experience the children were then able to write sentences to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week our Nursery children celebrated the 25th anniversary of World Book Day with a variety of events in school to promote reading. The children were invited to come into school dressed either in clothes they like to wear while reading or as their favourite book character. We launched a &#8216;story in a box&#8217; competition, [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Following on from our art competition, that we launched back in the Autumn term, we were delighted to find out that some of the children&#8217;s work was chosen to be displayed at Northumbria Police&#8217;s &#8216;Pride in Policing&#8217; awards ceremony! We also had five winners who were awarded a special gift which was presented to them in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 had a fabulous trip to the Shipley Art Gallery this week. This was part of our work on Changing Materials in Science and our Art work on using different types of materials. We looked at all of the fabulous fabric exhibits in the gallery and found out where lots of natural materials came [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We had a fantastic afternoon taking part in another Now Press Play experience. In today’s experience we were a worker in Victorian England. Conditions and pay for workers we so unfair that we decided to go on strike!</p>

<p>Year 4 have had a fantastic term in music lessons, composing new lyrics for Joanna Mangona&#8217;s anti-bullying rap &#8216;Stop!&#8217; Here are the verses we composed: Stop bullying it’s cold as ice Our differences they add some spice Come to me to get some advice And I’ll show you the best way to be nice I [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception class enjoyed learning about Lunar New Year and how it is celebrated in China. The children worked together to create their own lion mask and performed a dance to music outside. The class also enjoyed sharing some Chinese food and even used chopsticks to eat their noodles.</p>
