<p>We had a fantastic day at the Shipley Art Gallery. We took park in two workshops creating our own materials. Firstly, we made our own piece of felt using different colours of wool and soapy water. <p>Year 1 had a great time making fruit smoothies in DT! First, we created our own recipe by choosing the ingredients to go into our smoothie. <p>Year 2 had a wonderful trip to Seaton Delaval Hall. It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to visit a National Trust property. We all day outside in the grounds, spending the morning in the allotment. It was great to get our hands dirty as we did some gardening. We spent some time digging [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Before half term, Year 2 had a very exciting trip to the Laing Art Gallery. We finally got to meet our penpals from Belsay School. We met up with our penpals and did some activities in the gallery with them. This involved some circle time games and producing some art together. It was magical to [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate World Children&#8217;s Day on 25-26th March, children across our school took part in Hexham and Newcastle diocese&#8217;s art competition. The theme was &#8216;What I think the kingdom of God looks like.&#8217; The children produced a huge number of wonderful pieces for the competition, filled with imagination and colour, and we wish them all [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate the arrival of JMW Turner&#8217;s &#8216;The Fighting Temeraire&#8217; at Newcastle&#8217;s Laing art gallery, Year 6 researched Turner&#8217;s watercolour &#8216;The Sun at Venice&#8217; and tried their hands at producing a watercolour of school with some of Turner&#8217;s sense of light. As you&#8217;ll agree, the results are hugely impressive!</p>

<p>Year 2 have had lots of fun this week designing, making and evaluating their own felt pouches this week in Design and Technology. We firstly practised running stitches on paper and then on a scrap piece of felt. Secondly we progressed onto sewing two templates together to make our pouch. We then designed a motif [&hellip;]</p>

<p>To celebrate Earth Day 2024, we discussed the importance of looking after our environment and made pledges to reduce the amount of plastic we use. We looked at the work of the artist, Michelle Reader and how she uses recycled materials to create her sculptures. We then made our own monster sculptures using recycled materials.</p>

<p>Today, Year 2 gathered with schools all across Newcastle at the Civic Centre to perform our own version of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute.’ We performed the songs we have been rehearsing, ‘Tamino’s Aria, ‘Walk on Tiptoe, ‘Hm Hm Hm,’ and ‘Papageno’s Aria.’ In addition, we also learnt ‘The Trials Begin,’ and ‘Pa Pa Pa,’ with [&hellip;]</p>

<p>For our DT topic this year, we have been designing and making a chair for baby bear. To make baby bear’s chair we used paper, tape and card. We had to ensure the chair legs were strong and stable and the same length. We also decorated our chairs to make them eye catching. We presented [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week in art, Year 1 has had fun exploring primary and secondary colours. We began by recapping primary colours and then discussed how we can mix the primary colours to get secondary colours. Then we experimented by mixing the primary colours to create a colour wheel. Next, we explored the work of the artist [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We looked at the artist Julian Opie and how his work is people with a thick outline and sometimes with no eyes or neck! We tried our best to draw the outline of a body in the style of Julian Opie. Can you see the similarities? Throughout the term we are going to be working [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We are really excited in Year 2 as we are starting a project with The Royal Opera House! For our first lesson, we were introduced to the world of opera, as well as some of the characters from The Magic Flute. We looked at the song, Papageno&#8217;s Aria and consider how the body can impact [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Key Stage 2 ended the school term with our annual Christmas Concert this afternoon, retelling the story of the Nativity in Scripture and song. There was a wonderful turn-out of adults and even an former pupil or two to support the children, who read and sang beautifully. Wishing you a very merry and safe Christmas [&hellip;]</p>

<p>KS1 have spent this half term learning and rehearsing the Christmas play, ‘The Little Red Robin.’ Every child had a role, either with lines to learn, a dance to perform and songs to sing. Some children played percussion instruments as part of the performance too. Children took part in all aspects of rehearsing and learned [&hellip;]</p>

<p>In Design Technology this week, Year 1 have made some excellent Christmas puppets. We began by learning how fabrics can be joined together using methods such as gluing, stapling and pinning.
