<p>We have had a fantastic time learning about Chinese New Year! We learnt about the country of China, and located it on a map of the world. We learnt about Chinese culture, played with Chinese Tangrams (jigsaws) and finally learn about the classic story of the Race of the Animals. We had so much fun [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week Reception have enjoyed exploring our key text Handa&#8217;s Surprise. They used cooking tools to prepare the fruit themselves and loved tasting the fruit! They then used the experience to complete some fantastic writing to describe the fruit! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; Year 2 are enjoying finding out all about different types of materials in Science. We looked at lots of different types of materials and thought of words to describe them. <p>Year 2 and Year 3 have been lucky enough to take part in the Newcastle Cathedral Schools Singing Project this half term. Every Tuesday, a music specialist from the Cathedral will visit school to deliver a thirty minute singing session in class. We welcomed Miss Oldfield, a chorister from the cathedral to lead us in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Key Stage 1 children have really enjoyed taking part in their Christmas performance this year; Cockadoodle Christmas and we have seen some real talent emerging! They enjoyed showing their play to the older boys and girls in school and to their families.</p>

<p>On Tuesday 14th December, our fabulous KS2 Choir and Orchestra performed in the Grainger Market in Newcastle city centre. We performed a twenty minute set twice, with a short break in between. Our KS2 Choir is made up of children from Year 5 and Year 6, and our KS2 Orchestra is made up of children [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 1 and Year 2 joined together to take part in a fabulous Christmas Craft Day. We dressed up in a festive outfit to take part in the fun! We made a whole host of Christmas crafts including; tree decorations, bookmarks, cards, wreaths and calendars.</p>

<p>On Thursday 16th December and Friday 17th December, we are looking forward to performing for our parents and guardians. Every class in KS2 has worked so hard to learn carols, sing in a group, learn readings and also learn hand actions to complement the carols.Children in Year 6 have also learnt readings for part of [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; In Year 4 and 5 Nurture Group, we have been using watercolours to paint Autumn sunsets. The results are absolutely stunning! Well done Nurture Group!</p>

<p>In their French lessons, Year 6 have been writing to their penpals in Paris with Madame Hewson. The letters are currently winging their way to Paris and we are excited to get our replies in the new year.</p>

<p>This half term, Nurture Group have been learning about hibernation. We have been learning about why animals hibernation, which ones hibernate and exactly what hibernation is. Did you know for example, that frogs hibernate at the bottom of ponds over Winter? In response, the children have been creating stunning watercolour sunsets with their chosen hibernating [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 6 had an amazing day with the Music Hands project creating their own work using the latest technology. We spent the morning experimenting on ipads with apps such as Garageband, Launchpad, Blockswave and Figure. This included trying lots of new instruments and then using them in our own music. Everyone loved having the chance [&hellip;]</p>

<p>When is a stick not a stick? If you ask Reception I am sure they will share lots of ideas! As part of our literacy curriculum the children have been using their imagination to change sticks into lots of different objects. They have also been using their fantastic phonics knowledge to record their ideas in [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week, Nurture Groups in Years 4 and 5 have been producing stunning Autumn sunsets in watercolour. The animals silhouetted against the sunset are all creatures that hibernate in the UK. Well done Nurture Group!</p>
