<p>Technology Tom visited Year 2 today as part of our work on Materials in Science. We looked at lots of different types of materials and talked about their origins and their uses. <p>This week Nursery and Reception Class celebrated World Book Day by focusing on the story &#8216;The Smeds and The Smoos&#8217; by Julia Donaldson &amp; Axel Scheffler.   The Nursery children dressed up in blue like the Smoo characters in the story and the Reception children dressed in red like the Smeds. <p>As part of World Book Day celebrations, KS2 explored four different books during the day.  Miss Davidson chose the Dam, a picture book based on a true story about the building of Kielder Reservoir. We started the session by discussing change in our lives and how it can be both a good and bad experience.  [&hellip;]</p>

<p>We have had a fantastic time learning about Chinese New Year! We learnt about the country of China, and located it on a map of the world. We learnt about Chinese culture, played with Chinese Tangrams (jigsaws) and finally learn about the classic story of the Race of the Animals. We had so much fun [&hellip;]</p>

<p>This week Reception have enjoyed exploring our key text Handa&#8217;s Surprise. They used cooking tools to prepare the fruit themselves and loved tasting the fruit! They then used the experience to complete some fantastic writing to describe the fruit! Well done Reception!</p>

<p>Year 4 visited the Discovery Museum as part of our Humanities unit &#8216;Changing Jobs.&#8217; We focussed on the different jobs involved in shipbuilding. These jobs were historically very important in Byker, but now very few people in Newcastle work in this industry in the secondary sector, We began with a look at Turbinia, one of [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 visited The Discovery Museum yesterday as part of our History work about The Great Fire of Newcastle and Gateshead. We learnt all about the events of The Great Fire. We acted out the events of the fire and we began to understand how the fire spread so quickly. We handled real artefacts from [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 4&#8217;s research into different jobs as as part of our Changing Jobs unit in Humanities continued today with two different interviews. First, we spoke to PC Dawson from Northumbria Police, who told us all about how he trained on the job. We asked lots of interesting questions about what PC Dawson likes about his [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Today Year 2 enjoyed taking part in a ZOOM with our penpals from Belsay school. We are taking part in The Linking Project which links schools from different geographical environments. Both schools read the book; Incredible You; We thought about the things which make us unique. We recorded these on a book work. We also [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception enjoyed learning about autumnal changes on their first school trip to Jesmond Dene. The weather was definitely true to the season but everyone had fun! The children collected objects such as leaves, conkers and twigs and brought them back to school to  create some fabulous art work! Well done Reception! Mrs Bickle and Mrs [&hellip;]</p>

<p>The Nursery children enjoyed their first educational visit to Jesmond Dene! We explored the area for signs of Autumn and collected leaves of different colour, shape and size.  The children were excited to have snack in the woods before visiting the animals in Pets Corner.  Even the bus journey was a highlight!  A wonderful morning [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Reception have been learning about seasonal changes this week. They have really enjoyed the story Pumpkin Soup and even made some of their own whilst investigating pumpkins! The story also explores the importance of sharing and taking turns which are both class promises! Well done Reception! Mrs Bickle and Mrs Heide</p>

<p>Today we practised our right to vote by voting for our School Council Reps. We discussed what it means to live in a democratic society.Congratulations to our winners: Harley and Amelia!</p>

<p>Year 2 have enjoyed having pen pals from Belsay school throughout this school year through The Linking Project. sadly we have not been able to meet up with our pen pals this year but we have kept in touch throughout the year by writing letters, exchanging postcards, sending pictures and even writing acrostic poems about [&hellip;]</p>

<p>Year 2 took a trip to Broxfield Farm where we learned all about the countryside from the local farmer; Mr. Thompson. Year 2 were very excited as we travelled to the countryside and were able to point out all the animals they saw and describe the rural habitat. &nbsp; While at the farm we took [&hellip;]</p>

<p>In Geography we are studying Extreme Earth (Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Tornados). This week we looked at Volcanoes and even recreated our own volcano eruption! Miss O&#8217;Hare demonstrated a volcano eruption by mixing baking powder, red food colouring and vinegar. It was very exciting! &nbsp;</p>

<p>As part of our Science topic on Plants, Year 5 were given the opportunity to dissect lilies. We have been learning about reproduction in plants and found out that a flower has both male and female parts. All living things need to make more of themselves so that their species does not die out. Reproduction [&hellip;]</p>

<p>In History this term, we have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians.  This week we focused on the process of mummification! Mummification is a complicated (and sometimes disgusting!) process, which involves preparing and preserving a body for the afterlife.  It is fascinating! In class, we wrote and illustrated each step to demonstrate our understanding of [&hellip;]</p>

<p>&nbsp; As part of our Humanities module &#8216;Changing Jobs&#8217; Year 4 took part in a Zoom workshop with the Discovery Museum about Shipbuilding on the River Tyne. We learned all about the different parts of a ship&#8230; Heard the sounds of a shipyard&#8230; Had a go at being a Riveter (this is Mr Moore&#8217;s try). [&hellip;]</p>

<p>On Friday we made our Angel of the North replicas. to finish off our Geography topic comparing the North East to London. We designed the replicas last week, thinking about the intent of our models and how someone might buy one for decoration or how a smaller version could be made even as a Christmas [&hellip;]</p>
