This week, our Reception children have been busy exploring the world of materials! From wood to metal, fabric to bricks, we’ve been learning all about the different materials that make up the world around us. To kick off our learning, the children went on a material hunt around school. They spotted wooden tables, metal gates, plastic pots fabric cushions, and even brick walls! Reception children had a magical afternoon exploring autumn during a special experience at The Lighthouse Project.  We began by collecting leaves of all shapes, sizes, and colours—from fiery reds to golden yellows and crunchy browns. The children were fascinated by the variety and loved comparing their finds with friends. It was a brilliant opportunity to talk about seasonal changes and observe the signs of autumn all around us. Year 3 have enjoyed reading their new class book ‘The Pebble in my Pocket’. They began by going into the playground to find their own pebble. They then wrote a description of it including some exciting adjectives. Next, they read the description of a volcanic eruption from the book and developed their comprehension skills by answering vocabulary, retrieval and summarising questions.

This week Year 3 began their new Science topic ‘Rocks and Soils’. The children found out about the components of soil and labelled a pie chart. They then considered which component was the most important: mineral matter, water, air or organic matter. Later, they went outside to play ‘Soil I-Spy’. In pairs they looked for worms, rocks and decomposing leaves.

Year 1 planned and had a class liturgy for the end of their Baptism topic in RE this week. We chose a reading from Mark's Gospel about Jesus' own Baptism and as a class, we danced a liturgical dance to the 'Our Father.' It was a lovely way to celebrate the end of our topic and remember and share our learning and think about how we could go forth and share the message with our families.

Year 5 have been working on multiplying by 10,100,1000 this week and have worked in different groups with different teachers. We have all successfully reached our own learning goals!

Year 6 completed their exploration of the Creation and Covenant branch of the RE curriculum with an opportunity to develop their own responses to their learning. The branch has covered a huge amount of ground, taking as its starting point the creation narratives in Genesis 1 and 2. In year 4 this half term we have been learning about Ancient Greece in History. Today, we had a visitor in to show us all about Ancient Greece. Richard brought in amazing artifacts from Ancient Greek times, such as armor worn in battles, masks worn in plays and weapons used on the battlefield. This week, our Reception children have been busy celebrating Harvest through lots of exciting activities! We explored a variety of vegetables, looking closely at their shapes, colours, and sizes. The children enjoyed weighing them and then used their observations to create beautiful paintings, thinking carefully about colour and detail. This term in art, we have been learning how to create different style lines and how to connect them to make different shapes. Our end goal was to draw different shapes to create a portrait inspired by the artist Paul Klee. We started by finding the shapes in a picture of ourselves and outlining them with a pen. Then, we copied the shapes onto a blank page, creating an abstract portrait similar to the work of Paul Klee.

Year 1 had a visit from 'That History Bloke' who came in and worked with the children around Victorian's toys. First, the children learned about what life was like for children during the Victorian era and some were able to try on old Victorian clothes. As part of our autumn theme, the children explored seasonal objects like leaves, conkers, and pinecones, and used their phonics knowledge to identify and record the initial sounds of each one. Inspired by cave paintings from the Stone Age, Year 3 have enjoyed creating Prehistoric art. They began by drawing the outline of an animal using charcoal. Next, they created a Prehistoric palette by making paints out of natural materials such as grass, leaves, mud, tea, beetroot and raspberries. Finally, they used the palette to paint their animals.
